A Self-Directed Learning Community in Philadelphia

CREATIVITY. COMPASSION. COLLABORATION.

We're not recreating school; we're co-creating education and childhood. Through creativity, compassion, and collaboration, we bring young people to the forefront of their stories.

Anchor 1

Natural Creativity is a resource center for self-directed education located in Philadelphia's Germantown neighborhood. At NC, families who choose an alternative to traditional schooling receive support through our partnership model.  Young people ages 5-18 come to our space 1-4 days a week to explore a wide range of materials and opportunities with staff and other young people. We are designed to be a complement to our families' homeschooling/self-directed education practice.

We also host youth and adult events in our space and welcome partnerships with other educational organizations.

Natural Creativity is dedicated to cultivating a community that promotes diversity, equity, and inclusion for all people.

NC's Anti-Racism Definition and Commitment

NC defines anti-racism as a lifelong commitment to actively identifying, challenging, and changing the values, structures, and behaviors that perpetuate racism. It involves not only recognizing and opposing racist attitudes and practices but also actively promoting racial equity and justice. Anti-racism requires continuous self-reflection, learning, and unlearning, as well as a commitment to societal change that addresses the root causes of inequality and discrimination. It emphasizes the importance of creating an inclusive and equitable community where all individuals are valued and respected, regardless of their race or ethnic background.

Our Non-Negotiables:

1. At Natural Creativity, we take care of each other, our community, and our shared space.
2. We do not cause harm on purpose to people, feelings, or things.
3. No discrimination.
4. Where there is hurt, we seek to heal.

Believe in a world of co-liberation…

...where each of us is driven to do the work necessary for all of us to thrive,
...where the right to direct one’s own life toward meaning and connection is inalienable and celebrated.
